Kathleen L. (Swanger) Brenneman
A Faithful Volunteer -
Kathleen L. (Swanger) Brenneman, 97, of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away March 4, 2022, at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle, following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Yeagertown, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, to the late William Earl Swanger Sr. and Sarah Margaretta (Snook) Swanger.
A 1942 graduate of Derry Township High School, Yeagertown; Kathleen worked as a forklift driver at the New Cumberland Army Depot during World War II. She married Lavere L. Brenneman, a Navy veteran, on June 8, 1949, a union that lasted until his death in April 2012.
Kathleen graduated from Central Penn Beauty School, Harrisburg, and operated a hair salon in Upper Allen Township from 1967 until her retirement in the early 1990s. Always active and independent, she drove until she was 96. She enjoyed reading, knitting and preparing meals for her neighbors.
Kathleen was a long-time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Mechanicsburg, where she and her husband volunteered in a variety of capacities. They also volunteered at Bethesda Mission, Harrisburg, and supported a number of Christian causes.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert L., Vincent P., William E. Jr., and Donald J. She is survived by nieces and nephews William E. Swanger III, Mechanicsburg; Pamela Snow, Duncannon; Gary Swanger, Harrisburg; Kay Rishel, Louisville, Nebraska; and James Swanger, Ocala, Florida; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.
All are welcome to join Kathleen’s family at her in-person and virtual gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Ross Ritchey officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
