Kenneth “Kenny” Roy Hetzel
Kenneth “Kenny” Roy Hetzel, age 70, of Mechanicsburg passed away at home on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Kenny was born on Saturday, June 26, 1948 in Wilkinsburg to the late Clarence Lewis Hetzel and Hazel Ruth (Kring) Hetzel. Kenny was the widower of Cassandra “Sandy” Ruth Eckrich, whom he married on June 26, 1995 and who died on December 4, 2017.
Kenny’s survivors include his brother, Melvin Hetzel and his wife, Vivian, of Syracuse, NY; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Kenny graduated from Norwin High School as part of the class of 1968. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Kenny retired from the FMSO in Mechanicsburg where he worked as a computer programmer. He was a member of the West Shore Elks Lodge #2257 in Camp Hill where he was currently serving as the organist. Kenny was a member of the VFW Memorial Post #6704 in Mechanicsburg and the American Legion Post #1001 in Harrisburg. Kenny was a well-known disc jockey who went by the name “DJ Kenny” and who specialized in oldies and Doo Wop. He enjoyed the quiet alone time he spent fishing, he was an avid billiard player and bowler, and he enjoyed playing softball. Kenny cherished the many vacations shared with his closest friends. The love of Kenny’s life was his late wife, Sandy, who he cherished. Kenny and Sandy seemed to be together all the time whether traveling or about town. They enjoyed each other’s company and those who knew them will smile as they remember the color coordinated outfits they frequently worn. They are together again and together forever.
All are welcome to join Kenny’s family at his celebration of life gathering on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the West Shore Elks Lodge 2257, 108 North Saint Johns Church Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville will be at the family’s convenience. Cremation was private.
