Kenneth “Pap” Eugene Hertzler, Sr.

Everyone Knew Him as “Pap” or “Pop” -

Kenneth “Pap” Eugene Hertzler, Sr., age 79, of Mechanicsburg, died at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, November 21, 2015.  Pap was born in Mechanicsburg, to the late William Eppley Hertzler and Emma Mae (Waggoner) Hertzler.  In addition to his parents, Pap is preceded in death by his sister, Jeannette Hertzler.

Pap’s survivors include his loving wife, Shirley (Totten) Hertzler; his four children: Kenneth “Cork” Hertzler, Jr. of Mechanicsburg, Wayne “Tuck” Hertzler and his wife, Kathy, of Massachusetts, Vaughn Noel, Velvet Freeman and her husband, Todd, of Mechanicsburg; his seven  grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; and his one brother, Stanley Hertzler, of California.

Pap graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1954.  He retired in 1998 as a sales representative from Moore’s Lumber in Camp Hill.  Pap was a member of the Mechanicsburg Club, VFW Post 7530, and American Legion Post 109.  A sports enthusiast, Pap was also a member of Enola Sportsmen’s Association and he particularly liked any sports that his children or grandchildren played.  He was a Redskins fan and enjoyed golfing, especially the time he hit a hole-in-one.  Pap was known for keeping confidences and for his sense of humor as the king of one-liners.  He valued time with friends and family.  Pap’s grandchildren were the joys of his life; his family was everything to him, and they will miss their Pap very much.

Pap’s family invites everyone to join them at any or all of the gathering times on Saturday, December 5, 2015.  All are welcome to Pap’s visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Interment will follow at 11:45 a.m. in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.  Everyone is invited to join Pap’s family for a time of food and fellowship at 12:30 p.m. at New Kingstown Fire Company, 277 North Locust Point Road, New Kingstown, PA 17072.  Cremation was private.
