Laura “Sis” Madeline (Stone) Shope

Loved Her Bicycle -

Laura “Sis” Madeline (Stone) Shope, 84, of Carlisle and formerly of Mechanicsburg and Dillsburg died at Claremont Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. She was born in Montpelier, Vermont on Monday, August 8, 1927 daughter of the late Wilbur Ambrose and Carrie Marie (Orth) Stone. Laura was the widow of Charles S. Shope who she married on October 26, 1947 and who died on September 24, 1995.

Laura attended Mechanicsburg High School. She loved to ride her bicycle and to walk. Laura would often ride her bike down Trindle Road to McDonalds in Carlisle and back. She enjoyed crocheting, search word books and riding in her daughter’s 1998 yellow Mustang. Laura loved her daughter and grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments.

Laura’s survivors include her loving daughter: Jeannine Strohecker and her husband Ralph of Dillsburg; three grandchildren: Scott Kramer of York, Sherry Davis and her husband Christopher of Laughlintown, Russel Strohecker and his wife Shana of Carlisle; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years; three siblings: Charles Stone, Jane Lutz, Wilbur Stone Jr; and one grandson: Jason Strohecker.

All are welcome to join Laura’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com with Pastor Alan Echard officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle.
