Leander "Dan" Daniel Krist

Leander “Dan” Daniel Krist, age 79, of Enola, passed away at home,  surrounded by his loving wife, his son, his granddaughter, and a dog that he never wanted but loved, on Sunday, November 5, 2023.  Dan was born on Saturday, March 25, 1944, in Lewistown to the late Lyle Krist and Naomi (Jones) Krist Wolf and was lucky enough to enjoy a second set of parents, the late Russell J. Lewis and Martha J. Lewis.  In addition to his two sets of parents, Dan is preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Sue Steinberger; and his three siblings: Robert “Bob” Krist, Kelley Vardzik and Kimbra Keys.

Dan’s survivors include his wife of 54 years, Susan “Sue” (Fisher) Krist; his son: Adam Daniel Krist of Enola; his three grandchildren: Abigail Rose Herling and husband, Colin; Lillie Josephine Krist; and Gabriel James Steinberger; his two sisters: Sandra “Sandy” Pearl Collins of Hershey and Kerri (Lewis) Leedy and husband, Rick, of Mechanicsburg; his son-in-law, Andrew Steinberger and wife, Dr. Judith Cook, of Belgrade, ME; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dan graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1964.  He retired from Quaker Oats, after more than 30 years of service working as a syrup processing machine operator.  Dan was a member of Bowmansdale Church of God and a former member of the Penbrook Church of God.  Dan loved to hold conversations with others and often went to the ABC West Lanes and Lounge to talk and watch the other bowlers.  Dan was an avid football fan and always cheered for the underdog. His favorite teams were the New York Jets and the Penn State University Nittany Lions.

All are welcome to join Dan’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Michael Walker officiating.  Interment will immediately follow the services in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.  Honored to be his urn-bearer is his son, Adam.
