Sweet & Gentle -

Leona Elizabeth (Murray) Kemper, 87, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Kulpmont , Pa died at Harrisburg Hospital on Monday, May 14, 2012. She was born in Shamokin on Tuesday, August 12, 1924 daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Tiley) Murray. Leona was the widow of Arthur J. Kemper to whom she was married for 52 years.

Leona graduated from Shamokin High School as part of the class of 1942. She retired from Mt. Carmel Area School District working as a reading aide. Leona was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg and a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church , Kulpmont. She was a sweet and gentle woman who loved to hold her great- grandchildren. Leona also liked pinochle & walking. Leona was a proud member of the “ Dancin Grannies ” in the late 80’s & 90’s.

Leona’s survivors include her loving daughter Patricia A. Habowski and her husband Chester of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren: Stephen Habowski and his wife Brenda of Myerstown; Thomas Habowski and his wife Sandy of Willow Street; Julie Nye and her husband Harry of Dillsburg; David Habowski and his wife Jennifer of Lewisberry; Jamie Kemper of Shamokin; nine great-grandchildren: Riley, Jack, Cole, Jeremy, Kate, Christopher, Luke, Natalie and Sunny; many nieces and nephews, and five sisters-in-law: Evelyn Paul, Lois Kemper, Lucy Kemper, Irene Kemper, and Pat Kemper.

Among those preceding her in death are her husband Arthur J. Kemper; a son Michael Kemper Sr.; a grandson Michael Kemper Jr.; six brothers: Bill, Jack, Joe, Ed, Tom and Ray Murray; two sisters Mae Harris and Katherine Murray.

All are welcome to join Leona’s family at her visitation from 10:00 until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 on Friday, May 18, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church , 310 Hertzler Road, Mechanicsburg, 17055, with Rev. Msgr. William J. King, V.G., J.C.D. celebrating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville at the convenience of the family.
