Leslie “Les” Laverne Blouin

Leslie “Les” Laverne Blouin, age 85, of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully at home, with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Les was born on Saturday, August 3, 1929 in Delamere, ND to the late James Blouin and Vivian Selena (Durgin) Blouin Wilson. In addition to his parents, Les is preceded in death by two brothers, James Blouin and David Blouin.
Les’ survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Doris I. (Stettenheim) Blouin; his daughter, Corinne (Blouin) Rebinski; his son, Leslie “Pete” Blouin and his wife, Virginia; his six grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, and Shannon Rebinski, Harmony Roberts, Pierre Blouin, and Evita Nagle; his five great-grandchildren: Leslie, Alecia, Henry, Ellis and Kaija; and his siblings: Norman, Jerry, Kathleen, and Ginger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Les proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 22 years which included two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in 1971 and promptly began another 22 year career at the Naval Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg. Les was a Free Mason with the Eureka Masonic Lodge #302 F&AM in Mechanicsburg and a Shriner with the Zembo Shrine in Harrisburg and their Greeters, and Antique and Classic Car Club. Les enjoyed his time and volunteer hours as a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz , and the Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg . He was also a member of the Sojourners , VFW , the Susquehanna Valley Ford Model A Restorer’s Club , and the Retractable Ford Club .
Les began his education in a one-room schoolhouse and ended with a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania . He thrived on fixing and making things, and he enjoyed restoring his antique cars and gardening with his wife. Les delighted in dancing with his wife who was his partner for over 50 years. They traveled often, finding both dancing opportunities and adventure. Les spent his life in the service of others and will be greatly missed.
All are welcome to join Les’ family at his viewing on Monday, November 24, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. followed by a committal service where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard all at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Bob Buhrig officiating. Honored to be pall bearers are the members of the National Sojourners, Harrisburg Chapter 76. Les’ family invites those in attendance to join them for a time of food, fellowship, and shared memories at Warm Hearts Café , next to Myers – Buhrig, immediately following the services. Cremation and interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be private and at the family’s convenience.
