Lester “Les” Lee Eckert

A Collector of Everything -

Lester “Les” Lee Eckert, age 85, of the Wertzville-Enola area, went Home to be with his Lord peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018, just four days after his wife of 66 years, Betty Louise (Hoover) Eckert, passed on into Heaven’s glory.  Les was born on Saturday, April 23, 1932 in Mechanicsburg to the late Lester E. Eckert and Marie H. (Vogelsong) Eckert.  In addition to his parents and wife, Les is preceded in death by three brothers: Harold Eckert, Paul Eckert, and Charles Eckert.

Les’ survivors include his four children: Linda L. Bragg and her husband, Calvin, of Portage, MI, Lester E. Eckert and his wife, Gayle, of Carlisle, David R. Eckert of Dillsburg, John R. Eckert and his fiancé, Michelle, of Dover; his ten grandchildren: Calvin Bragg, Jr. and his four children: Andrew, Morgan, Noah, and Ryan, of Michigan, Corrine Meissner and her husband, Aaron, and their children: Josiah, Elise, and Addison, of Wisconsin, Neal Eckert and his wife, Calle, and their children: Selah, Abby, Grace Anne, Chloe, Zion, Elijah, and Mercy Dawn, of Michigan, Lisa Folkerts and her husband, Matthew, and their children: Lexi, Tyler, and Jordan, of New Jersey, Jason Eckert and his wife, Erin, of Etters, David Eckert of York, Andrew Eckert and his wife, Brooke, and their children: Jaeden, Jayme, Jordyn, and Joseph, of Mechanicsburg, Joshua Eckert and his daughter, Ava, of Dillsburg, John Eckert and his wife, Winter, and their children: Sayde, Sophia, and Cecilia, of Marysville, Krista Lehman and her husband, Matt, and their son, Maklan, of North Carolina; his sister, Mary Rife of Mechanicsburg; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine companion, Molly the Pomeranian.

Les retired from Exel Logistics in Mechanicsburg, after 25 years of service working as a forklift operator.  He was a member of West Shore Church of the Brethren in Enola, where he helped with church maintenance and various projects.  Les was also a member of the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association in Mechanicsburg.  He loved going to auctions, flea markets, and anywhere he could find items to add to his collections.  Les was a collector of everything, which included, but was hardly limited to: postcards, matchbooks, stamps, wooden nickels, old pictures, and baseball cards.  He enjoyed doing yard work, maintaining his home, and building various things with the old lumber and flooring he would often salvage.  Les liked to spend time tinkering in his garage, which he called his “shop”.  The most important thing to Les was his family.  His wife, Betty, was the love of his life as well as his pride and joy.  He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; they will all miss him dearly.

All are welcome to join Betty & Les’ family at their viewing on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 with the service to begin at 12:15 p.m., all at West Shore Church of the Brethren, 6921 Wertzville Road, Enola, PA 17025; with Reverend Edward Robbins officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Enola.  The family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at their church following the burial.
