Lillian (Benson) Boyd, 87, of Mechanicsburg , died at Harrisburg Hospital on Friday, August 16, 2013. She was born in Philadelphia, on Thursday, March 25, 1926 daughter of the late Samuel Benson and Ozie Dell (Williams) Benson.
Lillian’s survivors include her loving children, Arifah Salaam, Leonard Boyd, Sr.; her sister, Francis Bey; her sister-in-law, Doris Thurman; eight grandchildren, Samuel V. Jones, Esq., Ozie D. Jones, Bilaal Salaam, Andrew Boyd, Leonard Boyd, Jr., Diana Boyd-Hill, Tyrone Hill, Tia Boyd; thirteen great-grandchildren; two nieces, Rita Benson, Diane Whooten-Stevens; her nephew, Lawrence Benson; a host of grand nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends; and her special friend and supporter, Evangelist Susan Robinson. Among those preceding Lillian in death are her uncle, David Williams; her aunts, Gertrude Williams, Lillian Bey-EL; her sister, Babe Benson; her brother, William Benson and his wife, Sara Whooten-Benson; her daughter, Clarissa Boyd; her son, Lorenzo Boyd, Jr. and his wife Miriam Boyd; and her nephews, Albert Benson and Thomas Benson.
Lillian was a loving and caring person, who had an open door policy for neighbors and friends. She was a grandmother to all. Lillian was a songwriter who wrote the popular song “Cornbread and Collar Greens”. She will be missed!!
All are welcome to join Lillian’s family at her graveside service on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 1:30 at Mechanicsburg Cemetery , 137 West Marble Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Bishop Tucker officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
