Lloyd Gilbert, Sr. 84, of St. Davids , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died at home and surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. He was born in Kelmer, AL, on Sunday, March 3, 1929, son of the late Grealy Grady Gilbert and Ethel (McGraw) Gilbert. Lloyd was the husband of Irene (Moniz) Gilbert whom he married on May 9, 1952.
Gilbert’s survivors include his loving wife of 61years, Irene Gilbert; his loving son, Lloyd Gilbert, Jr.; five grandchildren, Mark, Lloyd III, Edward, Joshua, and Eric; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Lees; and several nieces and nephews.
Lloyd retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service working as an Intelligence Officer. After retiring from the Navy, he was a co-owner and operator of Swartz & Associates . Lloyd loved to work on his cars and motorcycles. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time in his yard tending to his shrubbery and plants.
Burial with full military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Cremation was private.
