Lorenzo “Ren” “Andy” Wilson Anderson

A Man of God -

Lorenzo “Ren” “Andy” Wilson Anderson, 95, of Carlisle , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , went home to be with his Lord and Savior while ending his days at the Church of God Home in Carlisle, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 2, 2013.  He was born in Mechanicsburg, on Wednesday, May 9, 1917, son of the late Latimer G. Anderson and Elsie S. (Capp) Anderson and his stepmother Verna S. Anderson.

Ren was the widower of Helen “Honey” (Mowery) Anderson whom he married on February 8, 1938, and who died on September 10, 2012.  Together, they had three children, the late Richard E. Anderson and his widow Ginnie Anderson Kane of Mechanicsburg, Fred E. Anderson Sr. and his wife Bonnie of Halifax, Bonnie Kudak of Dover and her late husband Leonard; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Victory Quigley of Ohio and Marion G. Dewalt of Camp Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Among those preceding him in death are grandson, Steven W. Anderson; granddaughter, Sherry A. Bobb; great-grandson, Derrick L. Shettel; two brothers, Richard G. Anderson and Leslie I. Anderson; and sister, Alfreda J. Shultz.

Ren attended Graham School on South Market Street in Mechanicsburg. He loved growing and showing award-winning roses.  He retired from Carpenters Local Union #287 , Harrisburg while working for Ritter Bros. Inc. for 31 years as a carpenter, foreman, and Superintendent of Construction.  After retiring, Ren served as a part-time building inspector for Upper Allen Township .  He was a lifetime member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge # 1179 , Bowmansdale; a member of Carpenters Retirees Club #87 ; and a member of the Harrisburg Rose Society .  Ren was a US Navy Seabee Veteran of WW II serving on the Island of Okinawa in the South Pacific Theatre.  He joined the Mechanicsburg First Church of God on April 1, 1934 and served as a deacon, lifetime elder, Sunday school teacher, superintendent and building/maintenance chairman, and president of the ushers association.  Ren received the church’s “Servant of the Year” award in 1987.  He also served on the Church of God Home’s Board of Directors .

All are welcome to join Ren’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from 6:30 to 7:30 at Church of God Home , 801 North Hanover Street, Carlisle and on Thursday, February 7, 2013, from 12:00 until time of service at 1:00 at First Church of God Church, 28 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Chaplain Bradley V. Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .  Ren’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the burial.

The family suggests memorial contributions to First Church of God, Church of God Home, and Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 .
