Lori Jean (Schauer) Carey

Family Was Most Important -

Lori Jean (Schauer) Carey, age 59, of New Cumberland, was reunited with her son in Heaven on Friday, December 27, 2019.  Lori was born on Thursday, April 21, 1960 in Lebanon to John Peter Schauer III and Joy Suzanne (Heim) Schauer.  Lori is preceded in death by her son, Jason Schauer Carey.

Lori’s survivors include husband of 32 years, Brian Howard Carey; her son, Jordan Tyler Carey and his wife, MegAnn, of Lemoyne; her granddaughter, Mackenzie Schauer Carey of Mechanicsburg; and her parents, John and Joy Schauer of Lebanon.

Lori graduated from Lebanon High School as part of the class of 1978.  Lori was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Lemoyne for more than 20 years.  She loved her church and was very active in the Living Manna Community Meal Program and many other church activities.  Working at Boscov’s was a special time in Lori’s life.  Not only did she make many friends of coworkers and customers alike; but she met her husband Brian, while she was a cashier and he was working in men’s suits.  She loved shopping of any kind; however, shopping for her family made her especially happy.  Lori also enjoyed going to dinner and then watching a movie or live theater.  In fact, Lori was a subscriber to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater for more than 20 years.  Lori was a fierce competitor when playing pinochle, often bidding higher and higher so her opponents couldn’t win the bid.  When decorating their home, Lori and Brian were quite a team.  Lori had the flair for design and Brian would bring them to life.  Lori had many favorite things but she cherished the time that she spent with her family the most.  They will miss her strength of character and love and support greatly.

All are welcome to join Lori’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, January 4, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:15 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 700 Market Street, Lemoyne, PA 17043; with Pastors Russell Goodman and Lew Parks officiating.  Lori’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church immediately following the service.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of Lori’s life can be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Lori’s family has entrusted her care to Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Lori’s full obituary, view her memorial video and portrait, and sign her official guest book at Buhrig.com.
