Touched So Many – “Forever In Our Hearts” -

Lorna Lee Dunn, age 66, of Camp Hill, went home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.  Lorna was born on Tuesday, February 12, 1952 in Hershey to Constance Lorraine (Poorman) Dunn.

Lorna’s survivors include her mother, Constance Dunn of Palmyra; her brother, Michael Dunn of Palmyra; her long-time close friend, Meredith Wisniewski of Camp Hill, her aunt, Glenda Day of Reading; several cousins; her precious canine companion, Zoe; and many friendships spanning over 40 years.

Lorna graduated from Palmyra High School as part of the class of 1970 and began her working career at Reese’s Candy Company.  In 1979, she moved to California where Lorna lived for 32 years and retired from the USPS after 31 years of service.  She moved back to Pennsylvania in 2011 to be close to her mother and brother.  Lorna was a member of Turning Point Church in Mechanicsburg since 2012.  She believed strongly in God. Lorna was quick to share her beliefs when asked, and very glad to offer others guidance when their need was obvious. She loved everyone unconditionally and completely.

Music was such a very large part of Lorna’s life.  She was a song collector of all kinds of music, and unlike so many collectors, who might let the collection just sit in a corner, her music collection played daily.  Some of her favorite moments in life were the ones where she was searching through dusty CDs in a record shop spending countless hours of the night, standing with friends, looking through bin after bin of old albums or CDs, trying to find the treasure that had evaded her over the years and then share them with her friends.

Lorna loved America and Americana.  Some of her favorite things were characters, real and created.  She loved Pee Wee Herman, Ozzie and Harriet (with special love for Ricky Nelson), Roy Rogers, and Lucille Ball.  She liked lunch boxes from the 50s and 60s, old toys, juke boxes, postal memorabilia, and almost anything that made someone smile and remember better times.  Her favorite food was Mexican cuisine, from 7-layer dip to chiles rellenos, but she was a fan of tacos, enchiladas, and tamales.  She also loved the foods she grew up with, including her mother’s homemade Shepherd’s Pie and Chicken Pot Pie.  When friends were unfamiliar with the type of foods she knew, Lorna would go to great lengths to either make it for them, or find someone who made it well, and then share it with those friends.

She loved people most of all.  Lorna loved her family and friends, and she enjoyed introducing one to the other, so that they could love one another too.  Her get-togethers were unique, and Lorna’s home was yours.  Nothing was off-limits when it came to giving and helping a friend.  She would take a friend to dinner and sit in the back of the restaurant until it closed all while trading stories and dreams.  Lorna would then pick up the check at the end, even if money was tight.  Where she wasn’t rich in the wallet, she was beyond rich in the heart.  Everyone loves to laugh and Lorna was no different in that regard.  She would laugh at everybody’s jokes, but never at anyone’s misfortune.  Lorna would laugh at the state of the world and at her own mistakes.  She would relish if others would laugh with her, even at her own expense.

Most importantly Lorna will be remembered for her kind and giving spirit.  She gave of herself and her belongings, even to those who did not ask.  Lorna was a friend, whether she had known a person for a short time, or for most of her life.  She could always be counted on, and when the group needed her, she could be counted in.  Lorna was positive, genuine and sweet.  She touched and knew so many, everyone is a lot better for her presence in their lives.

Lorna taught us a lot except how to live without her.

All are welcome to join Lorna’s family at her celebration of life gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, from 10:45 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend George A. Spangler officiating.  During the service, there will be a time to share stories and memories. Lorna’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the café next to Myers-Buhrig following the service.  Cremation was private.
