L. Robert “ Bob” Thornton
Loved His Savior -
L. Robert “Bob” Thornton, 80, of Dillsburg, died peacefully and was welcomed into Heaven on June 19, 2013, after closing his final chapter with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Mechanicsburg on A pril 25, 1933, son of the late Lester Roy Thornton and Rachael Elizabeth Basehore Thornton. Bob was the devoted husband to Linda Mae Cowan Thornton,with whom he was about to celebrate their 58 th wedding anniversary.
Bob’s survivors include his loving wife, Linda, and his four children, Ty Robert Thornton of Birmingham Alabama, Marsha Kay Thornton Cobb of Davison, Michigan, Faith Elizabeth Thornton Perkins of Fox Point, Wisconsin, and Jonathan Paul Thornton of Dillsburg. Bob was a dedicated grandfather to his four grandchildren, Rachel Elizabeth Cobb, Rebekah Elaine Cobb, Christopher Aaron Perkins and Samuel Robert Perkins.
Bob wore many hats over the course of his lifetime. From Korea War Veteran to skilled construction tradesman and owner of Solid “R” Construction for over 50 years, Bob was a creative and industrious man who saw beauty and humor in the world around him. His love and dedication to his family was surpassed only by his love of his Savior, and his firm assurance of salvation inspired him through his final months.
His immediate family will observe a private burial with military honors at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his Gathering of Family and Friends on Sunday, June 23, 2013 , from 3:30 to 6:00 with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at 4:30 at First Church of God Community Center , 201 East Green Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Bob’s family hopes that their family and friends will join them for this time of food, fellowship, remembrance and celebration of Bob’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Bob’s memory to the Aberdeen Bible Church, 529 Edmund Street, Aberdeen, MD 21001.
