Shared Her Talents With Others -

Lucy Starr (Stoner) Coover, age 76, of Mechanicsburg passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, September 30, 2019, after a long illness.  Lucy was born on Saturday, November 21, 1942 in Hershey to the late Robert Titus Stoner and Charlotte Jane (Starr) Stoner.

Lucy’s survivors include her husband of 55 years, Harold Eugene Coover; her three children: Jane Coover and her significant other, Christopher Webber, of New Cumberland, Emily Coover of Phillipsburg, James “Jim” Coover and his wife, Jessica, of Mechanicsburg; and her four grandchildren: Caleb Smith, James Holman III, Audrey Smith and Henry Coover.

Lucy graduated from Cedar Cliff High School as part of the class of 1960 and from Shippensburg University in 1964 with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in elementary education.  She was employed as an elementary school teacher for the West Shore school district and later as a substitute elementary school teacher for the Cumberland Valley school district.  Lucy was a member of the Mechanicsburg Junior Women’s Club.  She was a lifelong member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, where she served as Sunday school teacher, as a member of the Altar Guild and the visitation group.  She had a wonderful talent for making many things.  Lucy loved making and sending greeting cards and candles for her many family members and friends.  She was also a talented seamstress; over the years, she created many outfits for her girls.  She also made fidget mats for Alzheimer patients.  Lucy loved spending time outside in her flower gardens and working in the yard around her home.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends, whether it was playing Bunco with her card group or visiting tea rooms for sandwiches and tea.  She was always eager to go on an outing with her girlfriends or classmates from her high school and college days.  She was a proud breast cancer survivor and her family will remember her strength and resiliency.
