Margaret “Peg” Germond, the former Margaret Mary Dougherty, 80, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Binghamton, NY , passed away peacefully on her own terms on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Patterson, NJ, on July 24, 1932.

P eg’s survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Rev. Robert Germond; three loving daughters, Wendy Germond of NY, Julie Hart and her husband Scott of PA, and Tracy Brooks of MD. “Nana” cherished spending time with family, especially grandchildren Megan Leigh Germond, Benjamin Hart, and Bradley Hart.  She is also survived by a sister, Joan Akers of Chambersburg; and many extended family members.

Peg graduated from Eastside High School, in Patterson, NJ and from Drew University in Madison, NJ.  She retired from Binghamton Savings Bank in 1993, working as an executive secretary.  Peg was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Enola.  She touched many lives with her gentle ways and treasured the life-long friendships developed while assisting her husband at the United Methodist churches he served in both northeastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York.  Peg enjoyed camping, needlework, water aerobics, and researching family genealogy.  She took great joy in traveling throughout the USA as well as abroad, but was never happier than when spending time at the beach.  In retirement she was especially passionate about volunteering at Vision Resources Radio Reading Services .  She will be remembered for her caring nature, her devotion to friends and family, and her concern for those in need.

All are welcome to join Peg’s family at her visitation on Monday, April 8, 2013, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 in the Community Room in Bethany Village East , 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Peg’s memory to Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania – Radio Reading Program , 1130 South 19 th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17104.
