Margaret “Peggy” Louise (Ainsworth) Arthur, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Altoona and Watsontown, passed away peacefully at Homeland Center on Thursday, September 26, 2019. Peggy was born on Friday, June 17, 1938 in Altoona to the late Roy Elmer Ainsworth and Betty Alberta (Evans) Ainsworth. Peggy was the widow of Reverend Kenneth R. Arthur, whom she married on June 27, 1959, and who died on October 5, 2010.
Peggy’s survivors include her four children: Dr. Kenneth R. Arthur and his fiancé, Cheryl, of Lancaster, Kimberly Arthur-Tressler and her husband, Rich, of Mechanicsburg, Karen Arthur-Santanna and her husband, Jim, of Mechanicsburg, Kristin Arthur-Lombardi of Mechanicsburg; her six grandchildren: Kenneth E. Arthur, Ron Tressler, Jessica Miller, Victoria Arthur, Toni Santanna, Grace Lombardi; her three great-grandchildren: Morgan Miller, Olsen Miller, Kieran Arthur; her sister-in-law, Judy Rossman of Altoona; her brother-in-law, Ron Arthur and his wife, Karen, of Rochester, NY; and her nephew and two nieces.
Peggy graduated from Altoona Area High School as part of the class of 1956 and from the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She retired from Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, after 20 years of service working as a registered nurse and the Director of Personal Care. Peggy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lemoyne since 2006. She was a member of the Watsontown Chapter #282 Order of the Eastern Star. Peggy enjoyed collecting Longaberger baskets, Hallmark ornaments, and Disney trinkets. She liked to sew, read, go on cruises, and travel to the beach and Disney World. Peggy also delighted in watching musicals and singing. She was such a funny woman with a beautiful smile who just loved to laugh. Above all else, Peggy most cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
All are welcome to join Peggy’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Jason Schwartzman officiating. Burial will follow on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in Alto Reste Park Cemetery in Altoona at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Duane Coy officiating. Honored to be pallbearers are: Dr. Kenneth R. Arthur, Jim Santanna, Rich Tressler, and Ron Tressler.
