Maria deLourdes “Vovó” (Eloy) Gaig Renter

Maria de Lourdes “Vovó” (Eloy) Gaig Renter, age 89, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of New York, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on Thursday, January 7, 2021.  Lourdes was born on Monday, July 27, 1931, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to the late Maria José Eloy.  In addition to her mother, Lourdes is preceded in death by the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Gaig Renter; and her siblings:  Elza Gonçalves and Eloy Gonçalves; her niece, Vera Rodrigues and her nephew, Wilson Laginha.

Lourdes’ survivors include her two children: Jose Renter and wife Liz of Hicksville, NY, Teresa Fusco and husband James of Mechanicsburg; her four grandchildren: Joseph William Renter, Cristina Maria Hartmann and husband Greg, Daniel Luis Fusco and significant other Kimberly Jones, Jennifer Marie Renter; her niece,  Rosa Maria Laginha ; her nephew, Jorge Laginha; and her special grandniece, Andrea Rodrigues.

A native of Brazil, Lourdes and her family moved to New York.  She, her husband and children lived in various places in New York and even moved back to live in her native country of Brazil for a time.  While living in Mechanicsburg, Lourdes was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Camp Hill, where she belonged to the Council of Catholic Women.  Lourdes worked with Joe in his jewelry business, but above all, she was a homemaker and a mother who took care of her children.  Her family will cherish their memories of Lourdes in their hearts forever.

Lourdes’ family will be remembering her privately.  Interment in New York will be at the family’s convenience. Cremation was private.
