Loving Mother and Sister -

Marie Louise (Parise) Derr, age 86, of Mechanicsburg, PA, died at home and surrounded by her loving daughters on September 16, 2016, after a long battle with kidney failure. Marie was born on Thursday, August 28, 1930 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Frank P. Parise and Julia (Knoll) Parise. She was the widow of William J. Derr, whom she married on October 27, 1956, and who died on June 26, 2008. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie is preceded in death by her brother, Frank P. Parise.

Marie’s survivors include her children: Tina M. Derr of Ridgley, MD, Theresa A. Derr of Mechanicsburg, PA; her sister, Elsie M. (Parise) Newkam of Camp Hill, PA; her “adopted” son and daughter, Bill E. Hoffer and his wife, Yong, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Marie graduated from Catholic High School in Harrisburg. She worked in the Harrisburg area at Telegraph Press, Chestnut Street Market, Konhaus Supermarket, Fifth Avenue Card Shop, and joined her beloved husband throughout his military career to Germany, Washington, California, Kentucky, Alabama and Alaska. She enjoyed traveling through many countries with her husband. Marie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg, PA. She enjoyed many years of playing Bingo, going on daytrips to casinos, and loved watching her backyard birds and chipmunks.

All are welcome to join Marie’s family at her viewing at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.

Contributions in celebration of Marie’s life can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania, 1500 Paxton Street, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17104.
