Marie Kay (Rudy) Garvey

Marie Kay (Rudy) Garvey, age 77, of Loysville, and formerly of Enola, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022.  Marie was born on Saturday, October 6, 1945, in Carlisle to the late Paul LeRoy Rudy, Sr. and Catherine Marie (Harmony) Rudy.  Marie was the widow of Joe David Garvey, whom she married on October 23, 1993, and who died on September 15, 2018.  In addition to her parents and husband, Marie is preceded in death by her four brothers: Denis L. Rudy, Jay N. Rudy, Leon D. Rudy, Rex T. Rudy; and her sister, Kathleen D. Yasalonis.

Marie’s survivors include her two daughters: Stephanie A. Naugle and her husband, Richard, of Loysville; Sara M. Klawitter of Mechanicsburg; her three grandchildren: Drew Klawitter, Killian Patterson, Anastasia Naugle; her four siblings: Paul L. Rudy, Jr. and his wife, Normetta, of Mechanicsburg; Betty E. Magaro and her husband, Kenneth, of Mechanicsburg; Ronald L. Rudy and his wife, Dianne, of Dillsburg; Shirley A. Stahler and her husband, Kenneth, of Dillsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Marie graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1963 and from Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) in 2013.  In 2007, she retired from Navy Fleet Material Support Office in Mechanicsburg, after many years of service working as a computer programmer.  Marie was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in New Bloomfield. She was very active in her church and had a deep connection to her faith.  Marie took great joy in volunteer work and gave her spare time to both New Hope Ministries and Cumberland County Office of Aging.  She loved to travel and especially enjoyed visiting Greenland and Central America.  She was also very musically inclined and liked to play the organ, piano, clarinet and saxophone.  Above all else, family meant the world to Marie.  She loved being a grandmother and cherished her grandchildren.  Marie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

All are welcome to join Marie’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and her gathering of family and friends on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – New Bloomfield Ward, 3787 Cold Storage Road, New Bloomfield, PA 17068; with Bishop Jeremy Wilt officiating.  Marie’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the church immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the reception in Hershey Cemetery.
