Marie Edith Herman, 93, of Mechanicsburg died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at her home in Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg. She was born on Tuesday, September 11, 1917 in Duncannon the daughter of the late Konrat and Elizabeth Rosinger Arva and she was the widow of David Carl Herman to whom she was married for 58 years before his death in 1994.

Marie attended John Harris High School and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg since 1994. She and her husband owned and operated Herman’s Studio & Camera Center in Bartlesville, Okla. They were madly in love, exchanging countless love letters for many years. Two of their most favorite shared experiences was their golfing and extensive traveling. They had a story-book romance that all around them enjoyed. Marie loved jewelry, golfing, the summer cabin and keeping a neat and clean house. She kept a travel journal which chronicled her extensive travels.

Marie is survived by one sister: Elsie Christner and her husband Richard of Del City, OK; one brother: Henry “Hank” F. Arva and his wife Belle of Mechanicsburg, PA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband: David Carl Herman; two brothers: Conrad Arva and John Arva; and three sisters: Betty Oberholtzer, Catherine Smith and Julia Bingaman.

All are welcome to join Marie’s family at her Memorial Service on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2:30 at Bethany Village, East Chapel , 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-0279. Reverend Anne Flynn will officiate. Interment was held on Friday, June 3, 2011 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg.
