Marie Elizabeth (Stiles) Schwarzel

A Sharp Mind -

Marie Elizabeth Schwarzel, 90, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Penn Hills died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at home and surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on Tuesday, April 19, 1921 in Charleroi the daughter of the late Louis Henry and Augusta Victoria (Pierard) Stiles.  Marie was the widow of Harry Schwarzel who she married on July 2, 1949 and who died on March 9, 1971.

Marie graduated from Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.  She had a sharp mind and always stayed up to date with the latest cancer research even after retirement.  Marie was a long-time member of Hebron United Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh having joined on September 28, 1968.  She loved gardening and roses as well as reading and she served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for over 12 years.  Marie’s greatest joy was being with her family who she deeply loved.

Marie’s survivors include her loving daughter: Nancy Miller and her husband Bob of Mechanicsburg; her grandchildren: Meghan Brown and her husband Trent, Jason and his wife Megan, Heather, Michelle, Lisa; and several nieces and nephews.  Among those preceding Marie in death are a son: Charles Louis Schwarzel and two brothers: George Stiles and August Stiles.

All are welcome to join Marie’s family at her viewing on Saturday, December 17, 2011, from 5:00 to 6:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com and on Monday, December 19, 2011 from 1:45 until time of service at 2:30 at Hebron United Presbyterian Church , 10460 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA, 15235, (412) 371-2307 with Reverend Dr. Douglas A. Rehberg officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in Hebron Church Cemetery.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Bob Miller, Jason Miller, Trent Brown and Matthew Stephens.

The family suggests memorial contributions to: American Cancer Society  or  American Heart Association.
