Marilyn Ann (Mitchell) Heckert
A Beautiful and Talented Singer -
Marilyn Ann (Mitchell) Heckert, age 85, of Camp Hill, and formerly of Johnstown, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Wednesday, March 11, 1936 in Huntington, OH, was a member of the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir with her beautiful soprano voice. She is preceded in death by her father, Byron I. Mitchell; her mother, Mildred I. (Galloway) Mitchell; her brother, Martin Mitchell; and her two grandsons: Andrew Clarke and Jason Camis.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 28 years, Isaac Ober Heckert; her brother, George Mitchell and wife, Diana; her five children: Shelley Eichelberger, Craig Venet and wife, Carol, Kathy Day, Leslie Zimmerman, and David Venet; her three step-children: Dwayne Heckert and husband, Ted Martin, Steve Heckert and wife, Connie, and Scott Heckert and wife, Heather; her 17 grandchildren; and her seven great-grandchildren
After graduating from Southmont High School in Johnston, PA, Marilyn attended Cambria-Rowe Business School. Her early family life began in Johnstown before moving to central Pennsylvania where she spent the remainder of her life raising her five children and working as an executive assistant for the Harrisburg branch, EI Associates, for over 25 years before retiring in 2001. Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors, including hiking, camping, and accompanying her husband on fishing and hunting trips. She also enjoyed the arts, participating with several local theaters and choral groups over the years. Her marriage to Isaac “Obe” Heckert on December 26, 1993, was a blessing to all, creating a blended family that provided support and joy to her throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, Marilyn’s family suggests memorial contributions can be made to any charity of the donor’s choosing.
All are welcome to join Marilyn’s family at her in-person viewing on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. with a service to begin at 10:00 a.m., all at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and for her virtual greeting and gathering of family and friends via video chat or telephone beginning at 9:40 a.m.; with The Reverend Kathryn Z. Johnston officiating. A virtual, live-streaming funeral service on www.mechpresby.org will begin at 10:00 a.m. Marilyn’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Burial will follow the reception in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.
