Marion Anna (Ferris) Schafer

Marion Anna (Ferris) Schafer, age 98, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Silver Spring, MD, was reunited with her husband in Heaven on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Marion was born on Thursday, December 7, 1922, in Cohoes, NY to the late Ernest E. Ferris and Josephine M. (Eisenmann). Marion was the widow of Alexander “Alex” Charles Schafer, Jr., whom she married on January 27, 1946, and who died on March 3, 2020. In addition to her parents and husband, Marion is preceded in death by her three siblings: Norman Ferris, Albert Ferris and Betty Gibbons.
Marion’s survivors include her three sons: Norman Karl Schafer and wife, Brenda, of Silver Spring, MD, Mark Ferris Schafer and wife, Joette, of Mechanicsburg, Alexander C. Schafer, III and wife, Christianne, of Advance, NC; her seven grandchildren: Mora Weaks, Charlie Schafer, Andrew Schafer, James Schafer, Dr. Allison Schafer, Kristy Kennedy, Amanda Schaffer; her six great-grandchildren: Henry, Charlie, Jack Henry, Laira, Colleen, Carter, Alexa; and her sister, Barbara Babson.
Marion graduated from the University of Maryland in 1982 with a degree in Art History. Marion was a longtime member of Woodside Methodist Church in Silver Spring, MD and a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist Church in Shiremanstown. She was an avid artist and traveler, sketching, then painting the places she visited.
All are welcome to join Alex & Marion’s family at their graveside service and interment on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY. Reception will follow the graveside services, with location to be announced. Cremation was private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in celebration of Marion’s life can be made to Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, 125 East Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011 or Bethany Village Benevolent Care Fund, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
