Marion Elizabeth (Starry) Waggoner

Marion Elizabeth (Starry) Waggoner, age 82, of Carlisle , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , was called home to be with the Lord on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014, following a brief illness. Marion was born on Monday, March 28, 1932, in her family home in Monroe Township, to Walter A. Starry and Kathryn Elizabeth (Harclerode) Starry. Marion was the widow of Charles F. Waggoner to whom she was married for 55 years and who died on November 3, 2005.
Marion’s survivors include her cousins, in-laws, friends and many beloved pets, including her dog, Scooby-Doo; cats, Oreo and Josie; donkeys; sheep; and goats.
Marion was a life-time member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg. She and her husband set up the hay wagon ride and petting zoo with all of their farm animals at the church’s Country Fair. God blessed Marion with a passion of caring for animals. She never turned down giving a loving home to a dog, cat or farm animal in need. Marion and her husband were life members of the Cumberland Sheep and Wool Growers’ Association . She worked for a short time at Williams Grove Amusement Park in her earlier years. Marion received her education while attending one-room schoolhouses in Monroe Township. She was the third generation to live in the family home her entire life. Although she was an only child and had no children of her own, Marion was a mother figure to many of the neighborhood children. She remained lifelong friends with many of the neighbors long after they moved from the area.
All are welcome to join Marion’s family and friends at her viewing on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Sigrid R. Hipkiss officiating. Marion’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House , 61 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the service. Burial will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Churchtown.
The family suggests memorial contributions to an animal charity of one’s choice or Homeland Hospice , 2300 Vartan Way, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
