Marion Lois (Smorgorzewski) Webb
An Independent Woman -
Marion Lois (Smorgorzewski) Webb, age 80, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Silver Spring Township, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018. Marion was born on Friday, October 15, 1937 in Scranton to the late Joseph Smorgorzewski and Lottie Smorgorzewski. Marion was the widow of Charles “Charlie” Grosvenor Webb, whom she married on July 7, 1983, and who died on May 5, 1992. In addition to her parents and husband, Marion is preceded in death by her three brothers: Joseph, Walter, John; her sister, Sophie; and her many beloved pets.
Marion’s survivors include her two sons: Frederick “Fred” Murphey and his wife, Marie, of Mechanicsburg, Stephen Murphey of Allentown; her three step-granddaughters: Erin Habe, Brandy Bogacki, Becky Colarik; her seven step-grandchildren: Braelyn, Kinley, Brendan, Aedan, Cullan, Otheos, Tharros; and her former spouse, William Murphey of Harrisburg.
Marion graduated valedictorian from Technical High School in Scranton as part of the class of 1953. While in school, she was a star softball pitcher that played on the International Salt Company Team. Marion received a full scholarship and attended the New York University School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance. She retired from Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, PA, after 22 years of service working as a social worker. Marion liked spending time outdoors where she would feed the birds and squirrels. She and her husband, Charlie, took the time together to search for rare ferns and birds. Marion was an animal lover and held her own pets especially close to her heart. She was a very independent woman who took pride in taking care of herself. Marion lived with Type 1 Diabetes for 62 years and was extremely knowledgeable of the technology that was available. She also loved all different genres of music and doing puzzles and other games to keep her mind sharp.
All are welcome to join Marion’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Marion’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Appalachian Brewing Company, 6462 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 following the service. Interment in Wellsboro Cemetery in Wellsboro, PA will be on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Cremation was private.
