Marliese Ly (Lehtmets) Lukk, age 85, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Lake Tahoe , died at home and surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 11, 2014. Marliese was born on Saturday, August 18, 1928 in Tallinn, Estonia to the late Richard Lehtmets and Marliese (Renneberg) Lehtmets. Marliese was the wife of Harry Herbert Lukk whom she married on January 1, 1979.
Marliese’s survivors include her husband of 35 years, Harry; her children: Aita Passmore and her husband, Larry, of Havertown, Andres M. Susi and his wife, Lucy, of Sellersville, Margus Susi and his wife, Janice, of Boiling Springs; and her three grandchildren.
Marliese fled the warring country of Estonia at the age of 16 and began her pursuit of an education in the field of medicine in the United States. Marliese graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in 1955. After graduation, she was a fellow at American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists . Marliese retired from both the U.S Army Reserve, as a Colonel, and Riddle Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia, after many years of service as a physician in obstetrics and gynecology. Marliese authored the book titled, “Stories Stones Tell: Estonian Monuments & Memorials”. She is listed in the 2 nd edition of Who’s Who of American Women.
Cremation was private and services in Estonia will be held at the convenience of the family. Marliese’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.
