Martha Fay (Rothermel) Hopple, age 68, of Winter Springs, FL , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died at Vitas Hospice in Winter Park, FL on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Martha was born on Friday, January 18, 1946, in Harrisburg to the late Paul Herman Rothermel and Sudie May Lenna (McDonald) Rothermel. Martha was the widow of Benjamin “Benny” Hopple.
Martha’s survivors include her two siblings, Herman R. Rothermel of Mechanicsburg, and Edna Smith; her best friends, Randy Smith and Lindsey Banzhoff, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her sister, Sara Rothermel.
Martha was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School , class of 1964. She retired from Hampton Inn in Mechanicsburg, after 16 years of service working in the hospitality industry. After retirement, Martha packed her bags and began her life in Winter Springs, FL with her good friend Lynn Banzhoff. She was an avid doll collector, and in time, her collection grew to over 100 dolls. She loved to watch rerun after rerun of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and the Golden Girls and admitted she knew the shows by heart. Martha never missed an episode of the Lawrence Welk Show and enjoyed watching Celtic dancers, Dancing With The Stars and golf. Martha loved going to yard sales, having cookouts at the dog park, going on casino gambling cruises, and most of all, being with her beloved cats and dogs.
All are welcome to join Martha’s family at her visitation on Monday, May 19, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Mary Medkeff-Rose officiating. Cremation was private and at the family’s convenience.
