Mary Jane (Wright) Fisher
Loving Mother, Grandmother, & Great Grandmother -
Mary Jane (Wright) Fisher, age 102, of Carlisle, and formerly of Shiremanstown and Harrisburg, passed away peacefully at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Mary Jane was born on Thursday, January 28, 1915 in Harrisburg to the late Spencer Wright and Jane (Marks) Wright. Mary Jane was the widow of Edward E. Fisher, whom she married on January 30, 1937, and who died on February 5, 2005.
Mary Jane’s survivors include her loving son, Samuel “Sam” W. Fisher and his wife, Carolyn (Guinivan), of Mechanicsburg and Tampa, FL; her granddaughter, Melanie (Fisher) Crouse and her husband, Randy, of Tampa, FL; her grandson, Keith Fisher and his wife, Christy (Parks) Fisher of Richmond, VA; and her three great grandchildren: Brandon Crouse, Brylee Crouse, and Rachel Fisher.
Mary Jane graduated from the former Harrisburg William Penn High School as part of the class of 1933 and she attended Central PA Business College. She retired from the Pennsylvania State Game Commission and was also a part owner of Fisher Jeweler Supplies in Harrisburg, where she worked alongside her husband as the accountant. Mary Jane was a member of Shiremanstown Bible Baptist Church, where she was involved in different women’s groups. She was a former Dauphin County committee woman in Harrisburg and a former treasurer of the Ladies Democratic Club. Mary Jane was active at the Boas School and treasurer of the Children’s Theater in Harrisburg.
She was a talented artist who loved to draw and make ceramics. Mary Jane loved playing card games such as Pinochle, Gin Rummy, and many others. She can be described as the most gregarious person that anyone would have ever met; Mary Jane just couldn’t get enough of talking to people and being social. The joy of her life was found in her family and Mary Jane cherished those times. She was grateful to have had 68 of years of marriage with her husband, Edward, and to have spent so many years with her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; they will miss her presence dearly.
