Mary Ann (Flanagan) Hartzel
Warm & Welcoming Smile -
Mary Ann (Flanagan) Hartzel, 68, of Mechanicsburg , died at home and surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, after a long battle with ALS. She was born in Baltimore, MD, on Saturday, May 6, 1944, daughter of the late John Ad Flanagan and Glendora (Liler) Flanagan. Mary was the wife of Raymond Edward Hartzel, Sr. whom she married on June 14, 1963.
Mary retired in 2010 from McDonald’s in Mechanicsburg where she was known as the “Pin Lady” and for her warm and welcoming smile. She loved to do crafts, ceramics, reading and gardening, especially growing her famous tomatoes. Mary was a “clean freak” who took joy in her spotless home which housed her renowned magnet collection. During retirement she especially enjoyed sitting in her sun room while reading and doing word searches. Every Monday, Mary and her husband, Ray, would see a movie at Cinema Center and every Friday for over four years, Mary and her daughters, Karen and Beth, would go shopping and out to eat. This, along with the time Mary spent with her son, Ray, and granddaughter, Ella, at their home was precious and will be cherished forever by her family.
Mary’s survivors include her loving husband of almost 50 years, Raymond “Ray” Edward Hartzel, Sr.; her two daughters, Karen Martin of Churchtown, Beth Hartzel of Camp Hill; her two sons, Raymond “Ray” Edward Hartzel, Jr. and his wife Nell and their daughter Ella of Mechanicsburg, and Bill Fishbaugh of North Carolina.
