Mary (Olejarczyk) Herth
Legacy of Love –
Mary (Olejarczyk) Herth, age 76, of Dillsburg, died at Holy Spirit Hospital while surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 9, 2015. Mary was born on Sunday, August 20, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Stanley Olejarczyk and Jean Curtis. In addition to her parents, her brother, Robert, and her dear sister, Christine, Mary was welcomed into eternal life by her beloved son, David Herth, who died on February 13, 1992.
Mary’s survivors include her devoted husband of 53 years, Jeffrey “Jeff” Herth; her loving daughter, Tracy Mason and her husband, Bradford, of Virginia; her two beloved grandchildren: Katie and Jon Mason; her brother, Stanley Oleysyck; her sister, Jean-Ruth Radlin; and a vast number of friends who she loved and embraced as extended family.
Mary proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961-63, during which time she was chosen as the Air Force representative to the Military Ball, where she stood in a receiving line with President John F. Kennedy. Her military service also introduced Mary to the love of her life and fellow airman; Jeff, and they married on February 10, 1962. She retired in 2013 from Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, after 32 years of service working as a switchboard operator; and with her very distinctive accent and pleasant voice, Mary was well-known throughout the entire hospital. Mary was a member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg for over 35 years, and enjoyed membership at Dillsburg American Legion Post 26 . Mary was an avid reader, devouring and collecting thousands of mystery and romance novels. She had many fun times playing cards with Jeff and a great group of friends once a month for over 20 years. Mary was known as the consummate hostess. She reveled in creating menus, cooking, and hosting gatherings of all sizes and themes to entertain not only her friends, but also her daughter’s large network of tight-knit friends from childhood and college, who Mary treated like her own children. Her favorite holiday was anyone’s birthday, and “Happy Birthday” was even her favorite song. Mary’s life can best be described in one word: love. She was all about the love; radiating her limitless love to everyone she met, and in return, Mary was loved by many. Mary leaves a legacy of love that will live on in her family and the numerous lives she touched.
