Fiercely Independent -

Mary M. Molin (Musselman), age 103, of Shiremanstown, passed away on February 9, 2022 at home, as she wished.  Mary was born on January 14, 1919 in Trenton, New Jersey.  She is survived by her son, Michael T. Molin of Mechanicsburg, PA; two granddaughters: Jennifer Molin of Doral, FL and Mary Beth Molin and her husband, Mame Thierno Faye, of Dakar, Senegal; three great-grandchildren: Alioune, Penda, and William Faye of Dakar, Senegal; as well as several nieces and nephews.  Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Molin; a special companion, Albert Zankl; her daughter-in-law, Laural Molin; her parents, Frank Milford and Ethel Maude (McNair) Musselman; her six siblings: Mildred Unruh, Alice Latz, Joseph Musselman, Harry Musselman, Pauline Haun, and Grace Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was a 1937 graduate of Fairfield High School, Fairfield, PA and a graduate of the Harrisburg Beauty College.  Due to the popularity of the finger wave at the time, which was difficult to master, she quickly realized that this was not the career for her.  Mary then volunteered to work for the U.S. government in Honolulu, HI after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  After working for two years in HI, she returned to PA where she worked for many years in Philadelphia as a bookkeeper for several companies which include: Curtis Publishers, Dennis Mitchell, Keebler Biscuits, Penwalt Chemicals and part time for an insurance company.  Mary, who was adventurous and fiercely independent, was known for her tenacity, grit, and hard-work ethic.

In 1978, approximately 2.5 years after her husband’s passing, Mary moved to Shiremanstown, PA to be closer to her siblings, Alice Latz and Harry Musselman, who were Shiremanstown residents.  Mary was a 40 plus year member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown, PA.  She devoted many years in the kitchen preparing, serving, and cleaning up the monthly luncheons as a member of the Shiremanstown Adult Group Explorers (SAGE).

All are welcome to join Mary’s family on Friday, February 18, 2022, at her in-person gathering of family and friends from 10:30 a.m. until time of virtual greeting of friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. and her service beginning at 11:45 a.m. all at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Chaplain Todd Carver and The Reverend Sarah M. Keilholtz will officiate the service.  Mary’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of our parking lots.  Burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be private.
