Mary Jane (Adams) Sheipe

Mary Jane (Adams) Sheipe, age 89, of Mechanicsburg and York Springs, died at home at Messiah Village on Sunday, April 9, 2017.  Mary Jane was born on Sunday, March 25, 1928 in Mechanicsburg to the late Irvin Adams and S. Eva (Biddle) Adams.  Mary Jane was the widow of Dale Eugene Adams, whom she married in 1945 and who died in 1986, and Lloyd Vernon Sheipe, whom she married in 1989 and who died in 2012.  In addition to her parents and husbands, Mary Jane is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tanya Lougee; her three brothers: Wilson Adams, Elmer Adams, William Adams; and her five sisters: Margaret Smith, Sara Mae Fought, Mildred Nitchman, Viola Adams, and Eva Adams.

Mary Jane’s survivors include her three daughters: Barbara Lougee and her husband, Bruce, of Mechanicsburg, Katherine Cable and her husband, David, of Mechanicsburg, Janet Rudy and her husband, Thomas, of Dillsburg; her seven grandchildren: Anthony Lougee, Joseph Rudy, Christopher Lougee, Jonathan Rudy, Jessica (Cable) Long, Jared Rudy, and Ashley (Cable) Ackerson; her 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1945.  She retired from Weis Market after years of service in both Mechanicsburg and Carlisle.  She also worked at Murphy’s in Mechanicsburg and Pomeroy’s in Harrisburg.  Mary Jane was a life-long member of First Church of God in Mechanicsburg.  She was well known as the pie baker which is one of the reasons that everyone smiled when they saw her coming.  Both she and her husband, Dale, were league bowlers at Trindle Bowl and ABC West.  She was a huge Philly’s Fan, a huge fan of Shady Maple Smorgasbord, and an expert seamstress who always enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  More than anything, Mary Jane cherished her family and she reveled in making her families’ clothing as well as all of her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s baby blankets and their afghans which were always in their school colors.

All are welcome to join Mary Jane’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, April 14, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:30 p.m. at the Messiah Village Chapel, 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Ronald R. Slabaugh officiating.  Mary Jane’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Grantham Church, 421 Grantham Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 following the memorial service.  Burial in Mechanicsburg Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Anthony Lougee, Joseph Rudy, Christopher Lougee, Jonathan Rudy, Jessica Long, Jared Rudy, and Ashley Ackerson.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village who so lovingly cared for Mary Jane.  Contributions in celebration of Mary Jane’s life can be made to Camp YoliJwa, 1550 Doubling Gap Road, Newville, PA 17241.
