Mary Ellen (Shutt) Wolfe
Loved Her Family -
Mary Ellen (Shutt) Wolfe, age 99, of Carlisle, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, died peacefully at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Mary was born on Saturday, August 26, 1916 in Harrisburg to the late Martin M. Shutt and Mary Ellen (Martin) Shutt. Mary was the widow of George C. Wolfe, Sr., whom she married on June 30, 1932, and who died on February 20, 1994. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her three brothers and five sisters.
Mary’s survivors include her three children: George C. Wolfe, Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Carlisle, Catharine M. Pealer of Dillsburg, Ralph E. Wolfe and his wife, Janet, of Carlisle; her eight grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her nine great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, George “Peanut” Shutt of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary attended West Shore School until the end of her eighth grade year, at which time she left to help her mother with domestic work to support the family. She retired from the International Ladies Garment Worker’s Union in Grantham on November 1, 1981. Mary loved sewing, doing needlepoint, and reading, especially romance novels. During her time at Claremont, she was unable to do her favorite hobbies, but was always concerned about the health and well-being of her family. She enjoyed family visits and especially cherished the ones that involved interaction with the younger children.
All are welcome to join Mary’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, January 29, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions to The Kidney Foundation of Central Pennsylvania, 1500 Paxton Street, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17104, www.kfcp.org or to a charity of one’s choice.
