Mary Jane Yocum

Mary Jane (Newmyer) Yocum, age 86, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, died Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Mary was born on Monday, November 7, 1938, in Harrisburg to the late Harvey Newmyer and Flora Newmyer. Mary was the widow of Chester Leroy Yocum, who died on March 29, 2005.

Mary’s survivors include her son: Mark Yocum of Harrisburg; and her two siblings: Harvey “Shorty” Newmyer of Hummelstown and Rose Carpenter of Mechanicsburg.

Mary retired from Bell Telephone and AT&T, after many years of service working as an operator. She was a woman with many interests. Mary enjoyed puzzles, collecting miniatures for her dollhouses, solving cryptograms, and playing solitaire. She enjoyed watching television, with some of her favorite shows including: Kelly & Mark, Let’s Make a Deal, Judge Judy, and The Price is Right. Mary especially loved old western movies. She will be dearly missed by those fortunate enough to have known her. 

All are welcome to join Mary’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Mary’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
