Mary “Kate” Kathryn (Peterson) Maeder, age 94, of Silver Spring Township , died at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, July 21, 2014. Kate was born on Tuesday, September 9, 1919 in Mount Holly Springs to the late John E. Peterson and Carrie (Adams) Peterson. Kate was the widow of David Maeder whom she married in June of 1960 and who died in April of 1995. In addition to her parents and husband, Kate is preceded in death by her siblings: Luther Peterson, George Peterson, Lloyd Peterson, Eva Peterson Bailey; and two siblings who died before Kate was born, her sister, Linda, and her brother, Lester.
Kate’s survivors include her three sons: David L. Forney and his wife, Barbara, of Carlisle, G. Douglas Forney and his wife, Joan, of Harrisburg, and Paul B. Forney of Phoenix, AZ; her three grandchildren: David C. Forney of Memphis, TN, Steven D. Forney of Virginia Beach, VA and Beth A. Pollard of Virginia Beach, VA; her four great-grandchildren: Danielle Forney, Brian Brink, Mandy Pollard, and Katherine Pollard; her three step-grandchildren, Rob Weary, Michelle McKeehan, and Debby York; her three step-great grandchildren, Eloise Weary, Colin York, and Erin York; her two nieces and one nephew, Freda Acri, Linda Clippinger, and Robert Peterson; and her cousin, Jim Moore.
Kate graduated from Carlisle High School and was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church where, in early life, she sang in the choir. Kate’s family suggests contributions be made to your own family by giving them time and love.
Viewing and funeral services will be private at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Mary Medkeff-Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Cemetery in Carlisle. Honored to be pallbearers are: Steven Forney, Charles Acri, James Moore, Jack Kapp, Tim Sullivan, and Gary Crawford.
