Matthew “Matt” Thomas Denio, age 34, of Mechanicsburg, is no longer in pain, is no longer suffering, he was set free while at home on Sunday, February 12, 2017. He was born on Thursday, May 27, 1982 in Natrona Heights, PA, to Thomas M. Denio and Denise Marie (Monteleone) Denio. Matt is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Ethel Monteleone, and his two uncles, Daniel Denio, and Karl Denio.
Matt’s survivors include his loving parents, Thomas M. and Denise M. (Monteleone) Denio of Mechanicsburg; his two brothers: Kristopher Denio and his wife, Meghan, and their children, Henry and Sarah all of North Carolina, Nicholas Denio of Mechanicsburg; his paternal grandparents, Lynn and Marion Denio of St. Marys; and two beloved family pets: Ganji, aka “Little Foot”, the dog, and Jameson, the cat.
Matt graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 2000 and from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005 with a degree in philosophy and political science. He was a giving person whose generosity knew no end. As part of his giving and caring nature, Matt was ordained to perform a marriage for friends and then continued for perform for others. Fearless, authentic, humorous, and faithful to a fault are how Matt’s family and friends will always remember him. He lived his life full force and with a great deal of passion, always dreaming large. Matt lived the way many would want but only dream about. He was a free spirit who enjoyed medicinal herbs and longed to grow the perfect plant. Camping, hiking, fishing - Matt loved everything about the outdoors.
All are welcome to join Matt’s family at his Celebration Gathering and Reception on Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a Time of Remembrance and Sharing of Stories to begin at 2:00 p.m. and a Committal Ceremony to take place at 4:00 p.m. all at The Community Center, 201 East Green Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Gretchen Sortzi officiating. Cremation and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In celebration of Matt’s life and to honor his generous and loving spirit, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers those wishing to express sympathy take an opportunity to extend an unexpected kindness to another.
