Max Lee McCartney
Max Lee McCartney, Pap, age 87, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Max was born on Friday, May 3, 1935, in Mechanicsburg to the late Martin VanBuren McCartney and Virgie Stella (Kitner) McCartney. In addition to his parents, Max is preceded in death by his three brothers: Norman McCartney, Martin McCartney, John McCartney; and his sister, Gladys Westhafer.
Max’s survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rosalie “Rose” Mary (Decker) McCartney; his daughter, Maxine Spishock and her husband, John, of Mechanicsburg; his four grandchildren: Sara Gingerich and her husband, Marvin, of Lewisberry; Margaret Schuckman and her husband Drew, of York Haven; Jon Spishock of Mechanicsburg; Samantha Webb and her husband, Chris, of Mechanicsburg; his four great-grandchildren: Braxton, Adrianna, Jacob and Mia Lee, who was lovingly given her middle name in honor of her great-grandfather; his two step great-grandchildren: Tyler and Maggie; and several nieces and nephews.
Max attended Mechanicsburg High School and served our country by enlisting in the United States Army. He retired from Excel Logistics, formerly Dauphin Distribution, in Mechanicsburg, after more than 35 years of service working as a mechanic. Max was a longtime attendee of Crossroads Community Church in Mechanicsburg and was a lifetime member of the Mechanicsburg Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering; he even crafted his own sword. He frequented races at Silver Spring Raceway and was the stock car mechanic for his friend, Ray. Max had a zest for life and could always be heard singing or humming little ditty tunes such as “Sunshine On My Shoulders” or “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”. He greatly enjoyed when his grandson, Jon, played guitar for him and relished time spent with his grandchildren. He always looked forward to attending their sporting events and liked to take them to amusement parks, most especially his favorite place on earth, Disney World. Above all else, nothing meant more to Max than family. Max will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
