Michael Andrew Takach, age 73, of Landisburg, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Mike was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Andrew Michael and Margaret (Babinecz) Takach.
Mike’s survivors include his wife of 43 years, Eugenia “Jeannie” (Johnson) Takach; his sons, Andrew (Genevieve) and Matthew (Crystal); his five grandchildren, Natalie Takach, Autumn Takach, Chase Patton, Jade (Tristan) Flory, and Hayden Patton; and several nieces and nephews.
Mike graduated from Brentwood High School in Pittsburgh with the class of 1969. Following high school, he served in both the Marine Corps Reserves and Navy Reserves, while working his way through college in various trades. He earned a BS in Business Administration from Robert Morris College in 1977, shortly before beginning his career as a Navy Civil Servant. For the next thirty years, Mike served his country in this capacity, holding several positions related to finance, budgeting, and accounting, while also earning his Master's in Governmental Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. He retired from Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg in 2008.
Throughout his entire life, Mike was enthusiastic about fitness and staying physically active. He was especially proud of coaching his sons' youth baseball teams and co-founding the West Perry Elementary Basketball League. He was a fan of all sports, but was truly passionate about those teams rooted in Pittsburgh. In retirement, Mike and Jeannie took to the air and seas, traveling together to six continents over a multitude of trips and cruises. Mike was guaranteed to show you the pictures, which may have included a few that showed off his physical prowess, or maybe "the whale" (if you know, you know). At home, he was the ultimate DIYer and problem solver. Above all, Mike was a dedicated family man, and spending time with his loved ones was what he truly enjoyed the most. He was the most loving husband, father, and Pap Pap, and he will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have been in his life.
Presently, Mike’s family is remembering him privately, but they will provide details of a celebration-of-life ceremony in the future.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests contributing, in Mike’s memory, to local youth sports programs of your choice, or treating yourself to an ice cream, his favorite indulgence.
Mike’s family has entrusted his care to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421. Read Mike’s full obituary, offer condolences and sympathy, share stories and memories, light a candle and sign his official guest book by visiting Buhrig.com.
