A True Bibliophile -

Michele Marie (Baker) Casey, 59, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of New Cumberland , died at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 25, 2012, her wedding anniversary, after a battle with cancer.  She was born in Harrisburg, on Friday, November 28, 1952, daughter of Marie Elizabeth (Garverick) Baker Hoover and the late Robert Charles Baker, Sr.  Michele was the wife of Robert “Bob” A. Casey, Jr. whom she married on August 25, 1973.

Michele graduated from Trinity High School as part of the class of 1970, from Bloomsburg University in 1973 and from Penn State University in 1992 with her Master of Arts in Humanities.  She retired from the Cumberland Valley School District in June of 2011 after 38 years of teaching.  Michele was active in the Cumberland Valley Education Association serving as a past President, the Editor of the newsletter, and in many other positions through the years.  She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg.

Michele was well-known as an actor, director and dedicated behind-the-scenes talent with numerous local theatre groups.  She and her husband, Bob, loved the theatre and performing together.  Bob often referred to Michele as his “leading lady, wife and best friend.”  Michele was a true bibliophile whose favorite book was To Kill a Mockingbird .  She was a voracious yard sale aficionado who enjoyed the activity with her best friend, Karen.  The beach, especially Stone Harbor, was one of her favorite places.

Most dear to her heart was her family, especially her grandchildren who were the apples of her eye.  She would always smile warmly when she reminisced about their family vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.  Michele will be dearly missed, forever loved and never forgotten.

Michele’s survivors include her loving husband of 39 years, Robert “Bob” A. Casey, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; her son, James R. Casey, Jr. and his wife Melissa and their children Jimmy and Ellie; her daughter, Kathlene “Kait” Linton and her husband Dave and their daughter Jovie; her mother, Marie Baker Hoover and her husband Vernon of Camp Hill; her six siblings, Robert Baker Jr. of Camp Hill, Patricia Bankert of Garnet Valley, John Baker of Mechanicsburg, Elizabeth Leach of Oregon, Ann Pierce of New Cumberland, Bert Langendijk of Enola; her best friend, Karen Bloom of Lewisberry; several nieces and nephews; and her five furry kids, Duffy, Chloe, Carlie, Yummy and Sweet Pea.

All are welcome to join Michele’s family at a visitation to celebrate her life on Friday, August 31, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Cremation was private.  Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be announced and held at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Trinity High School’s St. Genesius Players , 3601 Simpson Ferry Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011 or Hospice for All Seasons , 2741 Paxton Street #200, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
