Mildred “Millie” Elizabeth (Roberts) Marek
A Joyful Life -
Mildred E. Marek, known by her friends and family as Millie, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 at The Oaks, Bethany Village, in Mechanicsburg. She was born on August 17, 1913 in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of the Maude (Docherty) and Paul Roberts.
Millie was married to the late Robert (Bob) F. Marek, Sr. for 37 years. They married during WWII while her husband served in the war in the Army Air Corps. After the war, they lived in a variety of places in the U.S., settling near Chicago to raise their family. Millie loved being a mother, dancing, playing golf and bridge, and bowling. When they retired, they moved to Clearwater, Florida, where they had many friends and were able to enjoy lots of travel. In 2000, Millie moved to the Mechanicsburg area to be closer to her family, and in the past four years lived at Bethany Village.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters: Donna and Virginia; her daughter, Pamela; and an infant granddaughter, Kelly. She is survived by her sister, Pauline; her son, Robert (Merita), her daughter, Laurie (David Loncao), her son-in-law, Pamela’s husband, Michael Marnell; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Millie said recently, “I’ve had a joyful life. I’d like to live it over just like it was.” The staff at Bethany Village says that Millie’s smile lit up the room. Her family is especially grateful to them for their incredible loving care of Millie. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
