Minnie Elizabeth (Vogelsong) Sheaffer
Loving Mother & Grandmother -
Minnie Elizabeth (Vogelsong) Sheaffer, 85, of Shermans Dale died at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 26, 2012. She was born in Mechanicsburg on Sunday, June 20, 1926 daughter of the late Tolbert and Mary (Shenk) Vogelsong. Minnie was the wife of Lloyd Woodrow Sheaffer who she married on May 16, 1948.
Minnie retired from Carlisle Tire & Wheel. She formerly attended Young’s United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg. Minnie loved bingo and could watch her own 20 cards as well as the cards of the person with her and she loved her bus trips to the Atlantic City Casinos with her husband Lloyd. Minnie enjoyed gardening, especially her lilac bushes, and while she liked the beauty of the lilacs she found the bushes were a nice tool for keeping her children and husband in line. She crocheted many afghans and loved to crack black walnuts in her kitchen. Everybody knew not to go barefoot in the kitchen because of the pieces of broken shells. Minnie was above all a hard worker who put everyone else first and was known by all as a giver.
Minnie’s survivors include her loving husband of 63 years: Lloyd; six children: Connie L. Kretzing and husband John of Newport, Loretta L. Miley and husband Ronald, Gail M. Shull and husband John, Barry L. Sheaffer and companion Leahann, Paul D. Sheaffer and wife Georgia all of Shermans Dale, Penny S. Reisinger and husband Ronald of New Bloomfield; a brother: Tolbert “Mike” Vogelsong and wife Fran of Mechanicsburg; a sister: Faye Rehm of Baltimore; seven grandsons; nine granddaughters; 23 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Minnie is also survived by her husband’s four siblings who she helped raise: Joyce Smiley of New Bloomfield, Robert Sheaffer of Dillsburg, Fay Scott, and Lynn Sheaffer both of Mechanicsburg.
Among those preceding Minnie in death are a son: Clifford W. Sheaffer; four brothers: Lester, Walter “Butch”, Sylvan, Richard “Buck” Vogelsong; and a sister: Thelma Vogelsong.
The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Claremont who so lovingly cared for Minnie during her illness.
