Muriel Marie (Arnold) Shaeffer, age 92, of Carlisle, died on Friday, January 19, 2024. Muriel was born on Monday, August 3, 1931, in Bangor, ME to the late Rosco Arnold and Anni Arnold. Muriel was the widow of Marlin “Doc” Richard Sheaffer, whom she married on December 24, 1950, and who died in 1997. In addition to her parents and husband, Muriel is preceded in death by daughter, Ann Davis; her grandson, Dalton Persing; and her two siblings: Roscoe Arnold and Velma Jones.
Muriel’s survivors include her four children: Cathy Taylor of Mechanicsburg, David Shaeffer of Mechanicsburg, Carol Neff of Mechanicsburg, Karen Persing of Hanover; her nine grandchildren: Michelle, Aimee, Tanaya, Rebecca, Kristen, Jeff, Jillian, Mike, Dave; her eight great-grandchildren; her two great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Muriel graduated from Bangor High School as part of the class of 1948. She retired from Claremont Nursing Home after many years of service working as a nurse’s aide. Muriel was a member of Churchtown Church of God. She was fashion conscious, and always made sure her hair was done, her lipstick was immaculate, and she was well dressed. Muriel was a soap opera fan, and she particularly enjoyed “Days of Our Lives” and “All My Children”. She was a stay-at-home mom and caregiver and she loved spending time with her family, especially caring for her grandchildren. Muriel believed it was important to keep her home clean, even getting on her hands and knees to clean the floors. Despite keeping busy at home, she would always make time to go on shopping trips with her sister. She will be dearly missed by those fortunate enough to have known her.
