Myrtle (Holcomb) Sanborn

Myrtle (Holcomb) Sanborn, age 93, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly a longtime resident of Burlington, Vermont, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 25, 2022.  Myrtle was born on Tuesday, January 8, 1929, in Burlington, Vermont to the late Gilbert Holcomb and Mary Frances (Maynes) Holcomb.  Myrtle was the widow of Elwood Francis Sanborn, whom she married on July 12, 1953, and who died on March 28, 2012.  In addition to her parents and husband, Myrtle is preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters.

Myrtle’s survivors include her four daughters: Janet Thayer and her husband, David, of Burlington, Vermont; Barbara Baessler and her husband, Larry, of Bedford, New Hampshire; Susan Pratico and her husband, Kevin, of Lehigh Acres, Florida; Sharon Lehman and her husband, Glenn, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; her 13 grandchildren; her 20 great-grandchildren; her nine great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Myrtle had a strong faith in God. To her, He was utterly dependable and had called her into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ. She was totally dependent on Christ's work on her behalf for her salvation.

Myrtle, a lifetime resident of Vermont, loved her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends well. Her home and heart were always open. She excelled at hospitality. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved to fill stockings, bake Christmas cookies, read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to her grandchildren, and have everyone, young and old, act out the Christmas Story from the Bible. Myrtle loved Lake Champlain, camping at Groton State Park, gardening, picking apples, sledding, and tea parties in front of the fireplace.

Myrtle worked as a secretary for many years, and retired from General Electric as an executive secretary in engineering.  She was an active member of the North Avenue Alliance Church in Burlington, Vermont. Pioneer Club for girls and the King's Kids Choir were her passion. She also served the Lord as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, VBS Leader, and in Home Growth Groups
