Neff Leroy Ludwig

Neff Leroy Ludwig, age 96, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Neff was born on Wednesday, June 21, 1922 in Mechanicsburg to the late Jacob Neff Musser Ludwig and Myrtle May (Brewbaker) Ludwig. Neff was the widower of Ruth Edna (Frank) Ludwig, whom he married on September 10, 1943, and who died on September 5, 1996. In addition to his parents and wife, Neff is preceded in death by his brother, Merle “Spark” Ludwig, Sr.; and his two sisters: Hilda “Peep” Westhafer and Bernice Isabel Ludwig.
Neff’s survivors include his two daughters: Carolyn L. Karge of Etters, Connie J. Tritt and her husband, Leonard, of Carlisle; his two grandchildren: Jill L. Weisheit of Camp Hill, Randall “Randy” W. Tritt and his wife, Courtney, of Midlothian, VA; his three great-granddaughters: Carlee E. Weisheit, Sydney A. Tritt, Kailyn R. Tritt; his sister, Violet P. Potteiger of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
Neff was a veteran of the United States Army and very proudly served in World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. During his service, Neff earned various medals including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired from the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg, after 32 years of service working as a warehouseman and operating a fork lift. Following his retirement, Neff worked as a school bus driver for the Cumberland Valley School District for nearly 10 years. He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown. Neff loved going deer hunting and working in his garden. He was also quite the master griller and cook. Neff and his wife enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Canada together on many bus trips over the years.
All are welcome to join Neff’s family at his viewing on Saturday, June 8, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Eric L. Funk officiating. Burial will follow in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Honored to be pallbearers are: James Homovich, Jeffrey Homovich, Kenneth Potteiger, Ronald Potteiger, Leonard Tritt, and Randall Tritt. Neff’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church, Trinity United Methodist Church, 4 West Main Street, New Kingstown, PA 17072, following the burial.
