Nettie Irene (Pifer) Kitzmiller

The Heart of the Home -

Nettie Irene (Pifer) Kitzmiller, age 96, of Camp Hill, died at Chapel Pointe on Sunday, September 18, 2016.  Nettie was born on Monday, August 2, 1920, in East Berlin, PA, to the late Charles Henry Pifer and Hope May (King) Pifer.  Nettie was the widow of William “Bill” J. Kitzmiller, whom she married on May 8, 1941, and who died in August of 1991.  In addition to her parents and husband, Nettie is preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kitzmiller; her three brothers: Ralph Pifer, Carl Pifer, Melvin Pifer; and her two sisters: Ethel Spangler, and Ruth Knaub.

Nettie’s survivors include her three children: Janice L. Dodge and her husband, David Tillinghast, of Carlisle, Larry Lee Kitzmiller and his wife, Anne, of MA, Nancy Lou Beck and her husband, David, of New Cumberland; her two grandchildren: Larry Lee Kitzmiller, Jr., Donald Kitzmiller; her three great-grandchildren; her three siblings: Blaine Pifer of York, Evelyn Bowers of Mechanicsburg, Jean Miller of TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nettie was the heart of the home and was the glue that kept everyone and the home together.  She was the consummate homemaker and loved her role.  She also loved sewing and gardening in her huge vegetable garden.  As part of her role in the family, Nettie was proud to be her husband’s “right hand” in his vehicle repair business, Kitzmiller’s Garage, in Camp Hill.  She helped for years in the business in any capacity where she was needed.  Faith was important to Nettie and perhaps because of that she enjoyed volunteerism.  Her kind and loving heart will remain with those that were lucky enough to have felt its warmth.

Nettie’s family will be remembering her life privately with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Burial in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill will be at the family’s convenience.

Nettie’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Nettie’s full obituary, view her picture, and sign her official guest book at www.Buhrig.com .
