Nilda Luz (Rosado Bauza) Rodriguez
A Skilled Seamstress -
Nilda Luz (Rosado Bauza) Rodriguez, age 83, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Bethlehem, was peacefully welcomed into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father while entering her Heavenly home on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Nilda was born on Friday, January 7, 1938 in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico to the late Ospicio Rosado and Rosa (Bauza) Rosado. Nilda was the widow of Angel “Louie” Luis Rodriguez, whom she married on July 3, 1954, and who died on July 5, 2014. In addition to her parents and husband, Nilda is preceded in death by her son, Louis Alberto Rodriguez, who died on July 21, 2015.
Nilda’s survivors include her daughter, Marie Dolores Rodriguez Savakinas and husband, Rick, of Mechanicsburg; and her granddaughter, Nicole Kerr and husband, Will, of Camp Hill.
Nilda moved to Bethlehem from Puerto Rico, with her husband, at the age of 16. She was employed at a local sewing factory and soon became a skillful seamstress. She loved to be creative with her sewing, often making holiday dresses for her granddaughter and eventually created and sewed her daughter’s wedding dress. Nilda naturally moved on to create embroidery landscapes, which she loved to display in her home. Nilda proudly earned her GED as the age of 37 and began taking classes at Northampton Community College but due to financial obligations, she returned to work. Her passion was singing old gospel hymns, especially Christmas music in her church choir at First Baptist Church in Bethlehem. In her younger years, she loved dancing and when Nilda was no longer able to walk, she became very expressive by dancing with her hands. Nilda always seemed to light up when she spent time with her granddaughter. Together, the two enjoyed singing worship music.
All are welcome to join Nilda’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. until her celebration of life service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Chaplain Keith Searfoss officiating. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville will be private and at the convenience of the family. Honored to be the urn bearer is Richard Savakinas. Cremation was private.
