Norma J. (Brink) Deckert, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home Saturday, March 26, 2016. Norma was born on Saturday, October 1, 1927 in Irvona, PA to the late George Samuel Brink and Edith (Mooney) Brink. Norma was the widow of King R. Deckert, who died on November 29, 1989. In addition to her parents and husband, Norma is preceded in death by her two brothers and two sisters.
Norma’s survivors include her son, Russell K. Deckert of Newville; her grandson, Calvin M. Deckert of Newville; and several nieces and nephews.
Norma graduated from Beccaria-Coalport-Irvona High School as part of the class of 1945. She retired from IBM in Mechanicsburg in 1990, after 24 years of service working in parts support. She also worked for Pealer’s Flowers for 10 years and Giant Food Stores. Norma was a member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg for 40 years, where she was a church deacon and used to sing in the choir. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Norma loved to be outdoors and her favorite activities included yard work; whether it was gardening, cutting grass, or planting flowers. Norma’s family will miss her caring and giving nature for anyone she knew who needed help.
All are welcome to join Norma’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Rev. Donald Wahlig officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation was private.
