Artistic & Adventurous -

Norma Ruth (Martz) Kegris Yost, age 91, of Mechanicsburg , died at West Shore Hospital on Friday, January 2, 2015.  Norma was born on Saturday, April 28, 1923, in Sunbury, to the late Edward Sherman Martz and Helen Maud (Matter) Martz.  Norma was the widow of Robert “Bob” Yost whom she married on December 20, 1970, and who died on July 1, 1972.  In addition to her parents and husband, Norma is preceded in death by her former husband, Albert “Russ” Russell Kegris; and her siblings, Boyd Martz and Edith Moore.

Norma’s survivors include her children: Cindy Lou Roney and her husband, James, of New Bloomfield, Carol Jean Morrow and her husband, Bob, of Mechanicsburg, Kathi Lynne Laubenstine and her husband, David, of Mechanicsburg; her grandchildren: Dianne McVey, Kristin Hyser, Tammy Morrow, Allison Carter, Lyndsey Hornock, Jonathon Hornock; her eleven great-grandchildren; her six great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Paul Martz, of Linglestown.

Norma graduated from Susquehanna Township High School as part of the class of 1941.  She worked in several capacities; from serving as a waitress at Howard Johnson’s and as a telephone operator for Sears Roebuck in Harrisburg and at Fort Indiantown Gap to working for the federal government at Mechanicsburg Navy Depot and in the photo lab at New Cumberland Army Depot . Norma loved to travel; taking the train to New York to visit friends and to Asbury Park, NJ to spend time with her cousin.  Norma and her baby, Carol, rode a troop train all the way to Mississippi and Tennessee to be with her husband before he was deployed during World War II.  As a young girl, she loved to roller skate with friends and swim at City Island and in the river in Sunbury with her family at her grandparents’ house.  Norma displayed her artistic side through singing in the school chorus, performing in plays and operettas, and later, through story writing, painting, and drawing.  Norma liked to dress up and look her best; always wearing jewelry and makeup.  Her daughters remember her as being the last one to arrive at family functions, and they will miss her deep concern and worry for their well-being.

All are welcome to join Norma’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, January 9, 2015, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Interment will follow in Orchard Hills Cemetery in Shamokin Dam.  Norma’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Country Cupboard, 101 Hafer Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837, following the interment.  Cremation was private.
