Norma Diahn (Hammaker) Shellehamer

A Wonderfully Caring & Loving Heart -

Norma Diahn (Hammaker) Shellehamer, age 82, of Camp Hill, was reunited with her husband in Heaven on Sunday, October 2, 2016.  Norma was born on Tuesday, December 12, 1933 in Mechanicsburg to the late Lewis Paul Hammaker and Harriet (Sheetz) Hammaker.  Norma was the widow of Harvey Cornelius Shellehamer, whom she married on December 18, 1954, and who died on August 2, 2014.  In addition to her parents and husband, Norma is preceded in death by her two sisters: Delores Gregg, Sonja Lebo; and her brother, Richard Hammaker.

Norma’s survivors include her three children: Diana L. Shellehamer of Lemoyne, Denise L. Shellehamer of Lemoyne, Douglas L. Shellehamer and his fiance, Natalie Harchuska, of Lebanon; and her two grandchildren: Tiffany and Dustin Shellhamer.

Norma graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1953.  She was a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist Church since 1954.  Norma loved to sing in the choir and work in the kitchen.  She also ran the church’s Sunday School Nursery Program for many years.  She was a faithful bowler who could be found at either Camp Hill Lanes or Trindle Bowl.  Norma was very active with Lower Allen Baseball where she ran the concession stands for over 25 years.  She had a green thumb and loved her flowers, both indoor and outdoor; Norma even sang to them which might explain why they grew so beautifully.  She was an excellent cook and was famous for recipies that included the phrases, “till it looks good” and “until it tastes right”.  Despite a rough start in life, she developed a wonderfully caring and loving heart that thrived on helping people.  Norma was a kind and nurturing person who adored her children and grandchildren.  She will be remembered lovingly and missed deeply.

All are welcome to join Norma’s family at her viewing on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. and at her funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, 125 East Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011; with Reverend Logan Garth Swanger officiating.  Burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery in Camp Hill.  Norma’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church immediately following the burial.

Contributions in celebration of Norma’s life can be made to Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, 125 East Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011.

Norma’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Norma’s full obituary, view her memorial video and portrait, and sign her official guest book at www.Buhrig.com .
